Back City Hall Ottawa is our Community We need a mayor and city council that understands that they work for the citizens of Ottawa and it is our interests they are obligated to support. Ottawa is not a business it is our community. The corporate model of decison making promoted and practiced by our current mayor Larry O'Brien and practiced by our former mayor Bob Chiarelli leaves people out especially the poor and vulnerable. We need the city's decisions made in an open, honest, reasonable and fair way which does not allow big government and big business to walk all over us. It is in our interest to run our community like a family with everyone included. . more.... Accountability 1) Office of the Inspector General As your mayor it is my intention to institute an Office of the Inspector General (OIG). The OIG is like an Ombudsman's Office but with teeth. more... 2) Appeals of the City's Decisions All decisions related to muncipal services will be appealable. The appeal process is to deal with unfair or unreasonable decisions by city staff and council. Tax Reform 1) Federal and Provicial Tax Reform I would initiate a strong lobby to reverse downloading including constitutional challenge and protest if necessary. 2) Reform of the Property Tax System As mayor I will develop a strong lobby for a return to a pubicly run property tax system.
